Romelu Lukaku hits out at fan criticising his ‘touch’ at Man Utd on Twitter

Romelu Lukaku responded to a Twitter user that criticised his first touch whilst playing for Manchester United.

In what has often been a topic of ridicule about his time at Old Trafford, the Belgian forward responded to a fan that made a snarky comment.

Even though his record at Manchester United was decent, scoring 42 goals over two seasons in a fairly dysfunctional United side, he has often been called out for his off-the-ball work and first touch.

Lukaku was hosting a public Q and A session on his Twitter account, taking on various questions from fans, and like most public Q and A sessions involving footballers, there are a few silly questions.

One user, Marwan Ahmed, asked: “How come you couldn't even control the ball at United but turned up at Inter? I mean you could not contain simple passes made to you.”

Lukaku responded with a perfectly logical point: “I wouldn’t play at this level if I couldn’t control a ball the f***”

The Twitter user then shared a clip with a professional footballer in a now-deleted tweet of Lukaku’s misplaced touches to which Lukaku, who has scored over 310 career goals for club and country, responded with: “You’re probably one of those dudes that records mistakes from players to go kill them on Twitter…you sad bro…I mean really though. More power to you.”

Bizarrely, the Twitter user then continued his stance of slating Lukaku’s touches and continued attempting to make his “point”, completely failing to understand that footballers, like all people, have underwhelming phases in their careers.

Lukaku’s Q and A lasted for several hours and he took on various rational questions including his favourite holiday destinations, NBA teams, video games and questions from other athletes, including compatriot Kim Clijsters, the former tennis star.

Since leaving Manchester United, Lukaku has been excellent for Inter, scoring 64 goals in 95 games and winning the Serie A title this past season.

He has also scored thrice for Belgium at Euro 2020, as they won their group with a perfect record and will face Portugal in the second round.
