Roman Abramovich ‘names Chelsea price-tag’ and is hoping for quick sale of club
Roman Abramovich is reportedly after a minimum of £3billion to sell Chelsea – but his current asking price might be a detriment to hopes of a quick sale.
The Russian is said to have asked for bids for the club to come in sharpish, with a price that would mark the biggest club sale in history.
However, the Daily Mail claim that Abramovich will struggle to hit that amount, suggesting that the amount 55-year-old wants – somewhere north of £3billion, and potentially even £4billion – is too steep for prospective buyers.
Abramovich is reportedly looking for a way out of the club he bought for £140 million 19 years ago – but the chances of offers coming in for that sum appear to be slim, and it's thought that the best possible way of selling would be through a buyer via a hedge fund.
Furthermore, it is claimed some buyers are reluctant to deal with Chelsea and their current owner.
Hansjorg Wyss, a Swiss billionaire, has admitted that he was approached as a possible figure who could forge part of a consortium that could take over the club.
He said via Swiss publication Blick “Like all other oligarchs, he (Abramovich) is also in a panic. Abramovich is trying to sell all his villas in England. He also wants to get rid of Chelsea quickly. I and three other people received an offer on Tuesday to buy Chelsea from Abramovich.
“I have to wait four to five days now. Abramovich is currently asking far too much.

“As of today, we don't know the exact selling price. I can well imagine starting at Chelsea with partners. But I have to examine the general conditions first. But what I can already say: I'm definitely not doing something like this alone. If I buy Chelsea, then with a consortium consisting of six to seven investors.”
Abramovich has attempted to step back from the running of the Premier League club following the news of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, consequently handing over the 'stewardship and care' of Chelsea to the club's charitable foundation trustees as he looks for a sale.
Daily Star Sport has reached out to Chelsea for comment regarding Abramovich's stance and a potential sale.
