Rodri has Man City thunderbolt disallowed after ‘worst handball decision yet’

One of the most 'insane' handball decisions yet saw Rodri's thunderbolt for Manchester City ruled out against Copenhagen in the Champions League.

The Spain midfielder was left with his head in his hands after his sensational first-half strike was struck off following a VAR review, with City looking for three points that would secure progression.

With referee Artur Dias being shown the ball striking the hand of Riyad Mahrez on the pitch-side monitor, social media users have fumed over the current guidelines given to officials.

Gary Lineker wrote on Twitter: "A stunning goal by Rodri ruled out through the absurdity of the current handball law."

With a Twitter user writing: "Heavens above that’s one of the worst ones yet."

A third agreed: "That's the most insane handball decision I've ever seen."

With a fourth saying: "Rodri got done so bad. Ruling a goal out of that quality for that handball is so bad for football."

And a fifth concluding: "Shocking decision."

To make matters worse for City, Mahrez would go on to miss a penalty before Sergio Gomez was sent off for a last-man foul.

The incident comes after two West Ham goals stood in their Premier League clash against Fulham despite Gianluca Scamacca and Michail Antonio both handling the ball.

Following that, Marcus Rashford had a goal ruled out against Everton for a similar incident, with fans left baffled over the current rules.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, Danny Murphy said: "If we go by the letter of the law they should all be disallowed."
