Under-fire Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has dismissed reports that he ‘stormed out’ of a press conference after his side’s draw with Crystal Palace last weekend. It had been claimed that the Northern Irishman walked out on a huddle of journalists after being asked a question about his salary.
Rodgers’ Leicester side are bottom of the Premier League having won just once this season. The 49-year-old has maintained that he has the backing of the club’s hierarchy.
Despite that, some fans expressed their discontent with Rodgers’ management during the goalless stalemate with Palace on Saturday. A section of fans jeered Rodgers and held up a banner which read: ‘Board – the time for action is now’.
“I’ve never stormed out of anything. I’ve never done that,” Rodgers has now insisted.
“We all know the manager is under pressure but I’ve always tried to stay calm and stay composed in the situation even though it is a difficult one. It doesn’t mean I don’t care, I’m as passionate as anyone. I think I have showed that in my time here.

“But when you’re in a difficult period and a rocky moment it’s even more important you keep that calmness, stay patient and inspire the players. Whatever you say when you’re towards the bottom of the league it will never be right.”
Rodgers was criticised for a comment he made about the weather affecting the tempo of the game against Palace. He has now responded: “I was asked a question about it being a slow start in the game and I said: ‘It’s an early kick off, it was a bit warm, sometimes that can affect the intensity of the game’.
“And then your words get manipulated and all of a sudden you don’t know what you’re talking about. When you are winning everything seems great, when you are losing you talk rubbish.”
The strong rebuttal has been made after it was suggested that Rodgers had abruptly ended a briefing with a small group of journalists wanting embargoed quotes ahead of Thursday’s visit to Leeds. It was put to the former Liverpool and Celtic head coach that he is unsackable due to his reported £10million per-year salary.

“I have read on the news what I am supposed to be on and I know for sure that is a total fabrication,” the Daily Telegraph report Rodgers as saying.
“It’s nowhere near. I actually think it is a disrespectful question, very disrespectful. I never asked you how much money you are on or whether there is any blockage in your role from your owners.”
“I don’t think you need to worry about my wages. If there is a stumbling block in anything, you need to ask the owners that. It’s a disgraceful question,” Rodgers added before apparently departing the scene.
Leicester visit Leeds on Thursday. The Foxes have taken just five points from their 10 top-flight matches this season.
