Andrew Robertson has become the latest in an increasingly long line of Liverpool players to commit his future to Anfield with a new long-term deal.
The Scotland left-back, who will be in contention to start Saturday’s showdown with Chelsea after recovering from an ankle issue, signed a long-term deal in January 2019 after making outstanding progress following his £10million move from Hull City in 2017.
However, his development has continued to such an extent that Liverpool have again renegotiated with Robertson and the new, improved terms – which reflect his importance to Jurgen Klopp’s squad – now run to June 2026.
Andrew Robertson has become the fifth first-team star to extend his contract with Liverpool
This has been a significant summer for Liverpool in terms of tying down the members of the group who have been influential in bringing success to the club and Robertson follows Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker, Fabinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold in signing a contract.
There was also a new deal for Harvey Elliott, who was outstanding on his first full start against Burnley on Saturday and who is set to be rewarded with his first call up into the England Under-21 squad this week for games against Romania and Kosovo.
It is expected that Jordan Henderson, Liverpool’s captain, will also end any uncertainty about his position soon, too, by penning terms that will run to 2024 with the option of a further 12 months.

Once those deals are completed, Liverpool will then aim to wrap up negotiations with Mohamed Salah, who has entered the final two years of his current arrangement.
There is recognition that it will take the biggest deal in Liverpool’s history to reward Salah, who is on the cusp of entering the top 10 of the club’s all-time list of goalscorers.
The business of keeping Robertson was much more straightforward and he told the club’s official website: ‘Obviously when the negotiations started and it looked as if my future was going to be here longer term than what it was, then I think it’s no secret that I’m happy at this club.
‘I want to stay at this club for as long as possible and to extend my stay, it’s always a happy time for me, for my family. We’re settled here, we love everything about this football club and I’m glad that the journey is continuing.’
