Roberto Firmino has called his fight with Diogo Jota for a starting place in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool squad a “healthy dispute”. Firmino had established himself as Liverpool’s main man through the middle over the years, flanked by Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
While the Brazilian wasn’t renowned for his goalscoring exploits, Firmino was seen as the glue that held Liverpool’s attacking force together.
He provided the perfect link up for both Salah and Mane to thrive while dropping deep at times to pick up play from midfield.
His displays at Liverpool had made him a regular choice in the Brazil national side.
But that all changed last year after Jota arrived from Wolves in a deal worth up to £41million.

The Portuguese star made an instant impact at Liverpool while Firmino struggled to pick up some form.
That led to Jota coming in as the regular option to play through the middle over Firmino and that has continued into this campaign.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed another strong start to the season with three goals in Liverpool’s opening six league games, starting all but one match.
Firmino grabbed his first start of the season against Chelsea last month, but picked up a hamstring which ruled him out for several weeks.
DON’T MISS
He’s now back and available for Klopp and showcased his talents on Tuesday night against Porto with two goals after coming off the bench.
Klopp now has a decision to make on who to start through the middle against Manchester City on Sunday.
But Firmino insists he welcomes the fight to start for Liverpool, stating the main importance is to help Klopp’s side.
“I’m at peace. It’s a healthy dispute,” Firmino told TNT Sports.
“Everyone who enters there tries to do their best and help Liverpool’s team.
“Whoever is entering is doing the job and is playing very well. So we have to continue.
“All with the intention of helping the team in search of victory.”
