Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has stressed his commitment to the club amid reports suggesting he wants a move away. Manchester City and Real Madrid have been linked with the 33-year-old, but he doesn’t think he has anything to prove in another league.

Lewandowski received his 2020/21 European Golden Shoe award on Monday after netting 41 goals in 29 Bundesliga games last season.

The Poland international smashed Gerd Muller’s previous record for the most goals scored in a single German top-flight campaign.

He cruised to the first European Golden Shoe of his decorated career, finishing 11 goals ahead of Lionel Messi.

Lewandowski’s achievements are all the more impressive when you consider he missed a whole month of the campaign through injury.

Last month, Sky Sports reported he was eyeing a new challenge before his Bayern contract expires in 2023.

It led to many fantasising over Lewandowski potentially looking to prove himself in the Premier League, La Liga or elsewhere.

But the prolific striker doesn’t think he has anything to prove after cementing himself as one of the greatest strikers of his generation.

After receiving his award, he said: “I don’t have to prove myself in another league. I can compete with the best from other leagues in the Champions League.

“I am 100 per cent focused on Bayern Munich, I don’t think about anything else but my team.”

With Erling Haaland available for £64million next summer, Bayern have been tipped to trigger his release clause to replace Lewandowski.

But the towering Pole has sent Haaland and his doubters a warning, insisting he isn’t done on the biggest stage yet.

“I am still here – and I will be here for a long time,” Lewandowski explained.

“Age, these are just numbers. I feel very good. I have the best stats I’ve ever had.

“I know that with my body I can play at the top level for years to come. I’m like a good wine and I hope to get even better.”

After failing to lure Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur, Man City will likely be back in the market for a striker next summer.

Real are expected to sign PSG forward Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Los Blancos have been heavily linked with Haaland too but could pursue Lewandowski instead and secure two attacking ‘Galacticos’ arrivals.

Lewandowski may be 33, but he is undoubtedly confident of remaining at the highest level for years to come.
