Robbie Keane perplexed as to Pochettino’s motivation to quit PSG for Man Utd
Robbie Keane has questioned why Mauricio Pochettino would want to swap Paris Saint-Germain for Manchester United.
Pochettino has been heavily linked with the Old Trafford vacancy following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking on Sunday.
The Argentine is the odds-on favourite to succeed the Norwegian after Zinedine Zidane ruled himself out of the running.
Reports on Monday suggested United had even begun talks to buy former Tottenham boss Pochettino out his contract at PSG.
However, Republic of Ireland and Spurs legend Keane questioned whether the 49-year-old would actually take the gig.
He told Sky Sports: "Why would Pochettino leave Paris St. Germain at this present time?"
"You've got Mbappe, you've got Neymar, you've got Messi.
"As Jamie [Redknapp] just alluded to there, two seconds ago, Man United, now, are at a level where they weren't a few years ago; where they were a top, top team in this country.
"They're still a massive, massive club but in terms of where they are now in the last three or four years, they haven't been the Man United that we have known for the last 15 to 20 years."
Keane suggested that Solskjaer was a transitional manager at Old Trafford, and that the club's hierarchy would now be looking to hire a boss who has been there and done it at the top level.

For the Irishman that means ignoring Pochettino and United looking elsewhere for their next appointment. He continued: "I think Ole was probably just a stop gap.
"He's a club legend and he will always be a club legend and he will be welcomed with open arms back there but for me, it always felt like a stop gap.
"Who do you get in now? Pochettino, in terms of, and Gary [Neville] said it earlier on, in terms of he hasn't won anything yet.
"He's clearly going to win the league with Paris St. Germain. I think they are 12 or 15 points clear but would he leave Paris St. Germain now to come to Man United.
"The only reason he would leave is to come back to the Premier League. I know he would definitely love, at some stage, to come back to the Premier League."
Speaking on Sunday, Keane bigged up the credentials of Zidane, but that was before the Frenchman ruled himself out of the running.
