Rob McElhenney makes Wrexham vow after record-breaking season
Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney has indicated to fans another title chasing campaign is on the cards for the team as they prepare for their first season back in the Football League. Next year’s campaign will see the Red Dragons back in League Two for the first time since 2007, ending a long drought after a sensational National League title-winning season.
Wrexham were pushed all the way by Notts County, but pulled away in the fortnight after a dramatic 3-2 win over the Magpies set them up to clinch the title with victory over Boreham Wood.
The side finished with 111 points – a National League record, with Notts County left to battle in the Play-Offs alongside Bromley, Boreham Wood, Barnet, Woking and Chesterfield.
The two Hollywood owners have been at a number of games in recent weeks, and joined in the celebration with fans after securing promotion, with McElhenney now stating that they will go for promotion again next season.
McElhenney tweeted: “111 points. What a season. Shall we try it again next year? Wrexham AFC – We’re. Just. Getting. Started.”
The 2023/24 season will be the first time Wrexham will figure in the Football League after a 15-season absence.
They will likely be one of the favourites to gain promotion, already having a number of League One calibre players in their squad and the opportunity to sepnd big again.
Paul Mullin has been the top scorer in the National League over the last two seasons, scoring 64 goals in 83 games for Wrexham.
Earlier this week, both Reynolds and McElhenney made very public attempts to try and coax Gareth Bale out of retirement, however the Welsh superstar has poured cold water on joining the club.
