A match between Argentinian sides River Plate and Defensa y Justicia has been suspended after a fan fell to their death.
Reports on Saturday announced the Argentine Primeira Division fixture was called off 28 minutes into the game as a result of a tragedy.
Argentine outlet Diario Ole shared an update on Twitter in which they indicated that the supporter fell from the upper stand to the lower stand.
They wrote: "Tragedy at the Monumental: a fan who fell from Sívori Alta to Sívori Baja lost his life and the match between River and Defensa y Justicia was suspended."
There was commotion on the pitch as players surrounded referee Fernando Rapallini to see what the plan of action was in light of the incident.
And with fans chanting "Stop the game," it was eventually decided by the referee that the match would be suspended at 0-0.
A red police tent was seen erected around the supporter in the stands.
Both sets of players were visibly distressed, before the River Plate stars and manager Martin Demichelis clapped their home supporters, who were in strong voice.
First placed River Plate had been eager to extend their lead atop the table to eight points. Defensa, meanwhile, sat in fifth place heading into the fixture in Bueno Aires.
