Rivaldo sends message to Sergio Ramos amid Man Utd transfer speculation
Barcelona legend Rivaldo believes Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos may already be planning for life away from the Bernabeu.
The Spaniard is out of contract at the end of the season and though Real are desperate to keep the defender, they want him to agree to a new cut-price deal to ease the financial burdens of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 34-year-old has reportedly turned down two new offers from Real Madrid and that’s led to the former Sevilla defender being linked with a move to Manchester United.
The Red Devils have twice attempted to sign Ramos in the past, though they felt they were being used by the Spaniard in 2015 when he successfully negotiated a new deal at the Bernabeu after interest from United.
However, it appears that Ramos’ exit from the Bernabeu is becoming more inevitable and Rivaldo believes the Spaniard may already be targeting his next club.
‘Sergio Ramos will be out of action for at least two months due to knee surgery and that will give him extra time to reflect about his decision of renewing his contract with Real Madrid or leaving at the end of season,’ Rivaldo told Betfair.
‘He is in one of the biggest clubs in the world and has a lot of affection from the fans, but he must ponder all the factors.
‘Despite being happy at Madrid, perhaps he is preparing a new adventure somewhere else looking for a new challenge. Anyway, these days away from the pitch will help him with his final decision.’
United are keen to sign a centre-back partner for Harry Maguire this summer.
RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano has long been thought of as a perfect solution to the side’s defensive problems but Bayern Munich are believed to be closing in on the Frenchman.
Reports in Spain earlier this week claimed Real Madrid would be willing to part with Ramos’ centre-back partner Raphael Varane this summer.
United lost out to Real when the Frenchman joined from Lens in 2011 and United’s excutive-vice chairman has privately admitted the club would be willing to spend big on the France international.
