Rio Ferdinand slams 'stupid' Raul Jimenez after bizarre red card vs Man City

Rio Ferdinand slammed Wolves striker Raul Jimenez after the her was sent off in bizarre circumstances against Manchester City.

Bruno Lage’s side had frustrated the Premier League champions during a largely incident-free opening period at the Etihad Stadium.

But a rush of blood from Jimenez in stoppage time handed the advantage to City with two bookable offences within the space of 60 seconds.

Jimenez could hardly believe his foolishness’ and took his time to leave the pitch, throwing his headband to the ground in disgust.

Lage offered the Wolves talisman a measure of sympathy by shaking Jimenez’s hand as he made his way to the tunnel, but Ferdinand was far less understanding of the striker’s indiscipline.

He told BT Sport: ‘Afterwards he took ages to come off but afterwards he was embarrassed. It was the realisation of what he’d actually done.

‘It was schoolboy errors and he was playing to the crowd but there must have been a tinge of embarrassment at what he’d done.

‘It was silly, 44 seconds from the yellow card to the red card. Stupid.’
