Richard Keys urges ‘two big changes’ to VAR after more Premier League shambles
Richard Keys has pushed for “two major changes” to the Video Assistant Referee process in football.
This weekend's Premier League action was once again marred by dubious decision-making courtesy of VAR. Brighton’s defeat to Tottenham was heavily impacted by mistakes from both referee Stuart Attwell and VAR official Michael Salisbury on Saturday.
With the score tied at 1-1, Attwell failed to award a penalty when Kaoru Mitoma was brought down by Pierre-Emile Hojberg in the box. The footage was then reviewed by Salisbury back at Stockley Park but a penalty was stunningly still not given.

Harry Kane went on to clinch the winner for Spurs while the PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) apologised to Brighton for the third time this season after getting another decision wrong.
It marked another moment of controversy with regards to VAR in a season where each gameweek has thrown up similarly contentious calls. And it sparked beIN sports presenter Keys to deem that enough was enough.
"We need two major changes,” Keys said. “We need regular, professional VAR operators and that is the only job they should be asked to do. Not do the bunker one day and referee the next.

“And we, the public, need to have contact with the referee at the monitor so we know what they are saying.”
Brighton also had goals by Mitoma and Danny Welbeck ruled out for handball against Tottenham. However, replays suggested the ball actually struck Mitoma on the chest rather than the arm.
The Seagulls saw another goal chalked off by the video technology when Alexis Mac Allister was adjudged to have handled the ball when he deflected Welbeck's shot in.
And Brighton captain Lewis Dunk could not hold back his frustration following the bitter result.
The defender said: “I don't see what VAR is here for. You bring it in for big decisions and don't make big decisions. What is the point of it? He has clearly fouled him.”
