‘Devastated’ Reece James reveals a surgeon told him his knee injury would keep him out for TWO MONTHS… as the Chelsea and England star vows to ‘do everything I can’ to make the World Cup, despite the tournament starting in four weeks

Reece James admitted he has been told by a surgeon he could be out for two months with the knee injury he suffered against AC Milan earlier in October.
The England right-back had been in line for a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup in Qatar in November, but the damage to his knee could put an end to his bid to make the final 26-man squad.
The 22-year-old Chelsea defender had been handed starts in both of England’s last two games by manager Gareth Southgate in an apparent show of faith ahead of the tournament, and now looks set to miss out entirely.

‘Last week I went in for a tackle against AC Milan when I got injured,’ the Blues defender told fans in a YouTube video.
‘I didn’t think it was too bad after the game, I stayed an extra day in Milan and thought maybe it was just a little niggle.
‘I think a day or two later I saw a surgeon. He told me that I was going to be out for around two months.’

James has been in brilliant form at the start of Chelsea’s 2022-23 campaign, with two goals and two assists in 11 appearances in all competitions.

But it is not just going forward that the 22-year-old has impressed, as he has also amassed four clean sheets in the same period.
However, yet unperturbed by the less than promising prognosis, the right-back has vowed to do everything within his power to manifest what would be an incredible recovery to compete at the World Cup – which was a childhood dream.
‘Yeah, it’s obviously devastating and you know the World Cup is only a month away. As a kid growing up I always wanted to go and this is my first opportunity.
‘I’ll do everything I can to try to be there but I’m obviously devastated, you know, just injury come at the wrong time. But every day we need to be grateful and thankful.
‘But yeah I’ll keep you updated with what’s happening on a day-to-day basis. And yeah I’ll touch base soon guys.’
Although devastated, the 22-year-old has vowed do everything he can to try to reach Qatar
Despite an infamous glut of talent at right-back, Southgate is now looking at the possibility of a World Cup without his two preferred options in the position.
Manchester City’s Kyle Walker is also a doubt for the tournament, out with a groin injury, although it is thought to be far less of a concern than James’ knee issue.
As a result, Trent Alexander-Arnold – who looked set to miss out on a plane ticket due to poor form – could be in line for a sensational return to the fold for the tournament.
