Jamie Redknapp is adamant that Wolves should have been given a penalty for a challenge by Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope on Raul Jimenez.
With the sides level at 0-0 at St James’ Park, Pope caught Jimenez in the area with his shoulder, sending the Wolves forward to the ground.
However, Pope managed to escape without being punished for the incident, much to the bewilderment of Redknapp.
Redknapp was confused as to why referee Andy Madley wasn’t told to consult the VAR monitor.
Asked whether Newcastle got away with not conceding a penalty, Redknapp said on Sky Sports: ‘Absolutely and so has Nick Pope, he’s incredibly lucky. I cannot believe they’ve not sent Andy Madley to the monitor.

Redknapp is adamant that Wolves should have been awarded a penalty for Pope’s challenge
‘He gets a good touch away from Jimenez, Nick Pope just takes him out with his right shoulder. He’s 60 yards away, but watch his right shoulder there he body checks him there, there’s no doubt it’s a foul.’
Redknapp feels that Pope should have been sent off, which would have resulted in a four-game ban.
‘Because he’s not tried to play the ball it would then be a penalty and a red card and a four game ban for him.
According to Redknapp, referee Andy Madley should have consulted the VAR monitor
‘That’s how contentious and important this decision is. We’ve got such an advantage with VAR, just go and have a look at it, if it takes a minute or two go and have a look at it and make up your own mind because otherwise you’re just guessing.
‘Andy Madley cannot see it but the referee’s official on the other side. That is such an important moment in this game that needs a little bit of time from the VAR monitor.’
Just six minutes after the incident, Newcastle took the lead through a header from Alexander Isak.
Three weeks ago Pope was sent off for a challenge on Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, which resulted in the goalkeeper missing Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final defeat against Manchester United.
