Real’s Valverde ‘punches Villarreal player in car park’ after on-pitch comment

Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde may have landed himself in hot water after he allegedly punched Villarreal striker Alex Baena in the car park of the Santiago Bernabeu after Real lost 3-2 against Villarreal on Saturday.

The incident is alleged to have happened after the game in which Valverde started as a substitute before he was brought on in the 59th minute for Karim Benzema with Los Blancos 2-1 up at the time.

Late goals from Jose Luis Morales and Samuel Chukwueze turned the game on its head for the Yellow Submarine who climbed to fifth with the victory, making it five La Liga games without a win.

The result has seemingly ended Real’s chance at beating Barcelona to the La Liga title, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side now 12 points behind the Catalan’s who have a game in hand.

But it appears that the action didn’t finish on the pitch, with ESPN reporting that the Uruguayan waited by Villarreal’s team bus before striking Baena after remarks he’d allegedly previously made to Valverde.

According to MARCA who contacted Valverde’s representatives, Baena provoked Valverde during the Copa del Rey clash between the two sides in January which Real won 3-2, by making comments about his unborn child who was close to being lost during the pregnancy, but has since been born healthy.

Valverde’s representatives said: “In the Copa del Rey match, Baena kicked Fede and told him: 'cry now that your son is not going to be born.'

“That stayed there, but today he said another similar thing to him, and Fede got heated. So he waited for him in the parking lot and told him that he was 'not messing with his family'.”

However, Baena himself has taken to Instagram to distance himself from the alleged abuse he sent Valverde’s way, but confirmed he was attacked.

He wrote: "Very happy with the impressive victory of the team on a stage like the Santiago Bernabeu, but at the same time very sad about the aggression I suffered after the match and surprised by what is being said about my person. It is totally false that I said that!"
