But now the Basque outfit have confirmed Isak has put pen to paper on fresh terms which will keep him at the Reale Arena for another five years.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Isak said of his new deal: ‘I’m very happy to continue at la Real.

‘It is a great club, I feel loved here and hope to enjoy things with this team for many more years.’

When news of Real Sociedad offering Isak a new deal first broke earlier this month, reports suggested the new deal would see his release clause boosted to £77m (€90m), but AS claim it is actually closer to £86m (€100m).

LaLiga outfit Real Sociedad have also bought out the £30m (€35m) buy-back clause which applied to Isak’s former club Borussia Dortmund in his previous deal.

Arsenal and Real Madrid were reportedly eyeing up moves for the Real Sociedad star

Rumours surfaced earlier this month in Germany that the two clubs were in productive negotiations to remove the clause, which has now happened as part of the new contract.

Isak, 21, signed for Dortmund on a five-and-a-half-year deal in January 2017 after breaking through at Swedish side AIK, but after just 13 appearances in two seasons was sent out on loan to Willem II in the Netherlands.

The 6’4″ target man then moved to San Sebastian on a five-year deal in June 2019 and has impressed, scoring 17 goals in 44 matches in all competitions this season as the Basque side finished fifth and qualified for the Europa League.

Isak started all four matches for his country at Euro 2020, managing an assist each in Sweden’s victory against Poland in their final Group E fixture and Emil Forsberg’s equaliser in the 2-1 defeat by Ukraine in the round of 16 match in Glasgow.
