- Madrid view a summer move for Camavinga as a chance to learn from Modric
Real Madrid are keen on signing Eduardo Camavinga despite Luka Modric signing a new contract at the Bernabeu.
The Spanish giants view the Rennes midfielder as the future of their midfield, with his physicality and positional flexibility key attributes.
Last week veteran midfielder Modric, 35, extended his deal until June 2022.
Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is reportedly still a £44million target for Real Madrid
But as reported by AS, the club see Modric’s extended terms as an excellent opportunity for Camavinga to learn from the Croatian.
The 18-year-old would join fellow youngsters Federico Valverde and Martin Odegaard, both 22, as potential successors to the supremely successful midfield pair of Modric and Toni Kroos, 30.
Brazilian defensive midfielder Casemiro, 28, has been earmarked as a link between the present and the future, while Isco is not part of the club’s long-term vision.
The side extended veteran Luka Modric’s contract but believe Camavinga can learn from him
Real Madrid’s hope was to bring French internationals Camavinga and PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe to the Spanish capital this summer.
The financial impact of the pandemic could hamper their plans, but LaLiga champions see both players as excellent prospects for the present and future.
Camavinga, who has played 54 times for Rennes, joined Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett in an attempt to grease the wheels of a move to Zinedine Zidane’s side.
