Real Madrid suffer a double blow after injuries to Alaba and Rodrygo

Real Madrid suffer a double blow as David Alaba faces a month out after suffering a hamstring injury in Champions League win over Liverpool… with Rodrygo also ruled out for 10 days due to a leg injury

  • David Alaba and Rodrygo are set to miss clash with Atletico Madrid this weekend
  • The pair were withdrawn during the last-16 win over Liverpool on Tuesday night
  • Aurelien Tchouameni has returned to training after recovering from an illness

Real Madrid have been dealt with a double blow after David Alaba and Rodrygo both suffered injuries during the win over Liverpool.

Alaba, 30, was forced off 27 minutes into the 5-2 Champions League last-16 first-leg victory at Anfield due to a hamstring injury and had to be replaced by Nacho.

The Austria international has all but been ruled out of Real’s clash with Atletico in the Madrid derby at Bernabeu on Saturday.

Alaba is also facing a race against time to be fit for the return leg against Jurgen Klopp’s side on March 15.

He returned from a one month-layoff earlier this month and featured in four matches against Al Ahly, Al Hilal, Elche and Osasuna before Liverpool.

Rodrygo was withdrawn after 81 minutes, having sustained a left upper leg injury

Meanwhile, Brazilian forward Rodrygo is also set to miss the Atletico Madrid match and sit out for 10 days.

The 22-year-old was withdrawn after 81 minutes against Liverpool having sustained a left upper leg injury.

Rodrygo had been ever-present for the LaLiga giants this season with 10 goals and eight assists in 35 games across all competitions.

Aurelien Tchouameni has returned to training ahead of the Atletico clash after missing the trip to Liverpool with a flu.

Left-back Ferland Mendy could be available in two weeks despite fears he could miss almost three months of action after suffering a thigh injury in late January.

After the match against Atletico, Real will take-on Barcelona in the Copa del Rey, Real Betis and Espanyol before hosting Liverpool in the second-leg.
