Real Madrid president and Carlo Ancelotti agree on ‘dream’ Benzema replacement
Real Madrid have reportedly decided on Chelsea forward Kai Havertz as their ideal target to replace Karim Benzema this summer. The Frenchman has 12 months remaining on his contract at the Bernabeu, but is set to join Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia after reaching an agreement with Al-Ittihad.
The move caught both Carlo Ancelotti and Florentino Perez by surprise, who were confident Benzema would stay at Real for at least another season. The Real manager also said recently that Benzema “should retire” at the Bernabeu as a club legend.
Benzema won the Ballon d’Or last year and is second on the all-time goalscorers list in Real’s history. He was once again Real’s top scorer this past season with 31 goals in all competitions.
Now the Spanish outfit will need to find someone capable of replacing Benzema’s goalscoring feats. A host of strikers such as Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe and Victor Osimhen are being linked with big-money moves to Real.
However, German outlet Bild claim both Ancelotti and Perez consider Havertz their ‘dream’ striker to replace Benzema. While Kane, Mbappe and Osimhen proved this past season how lethal they can be in front of goal, Havertz endured a difficult campaign.
The German attacker has struggled to find the net on a regular basis since joining Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen back in 2020. But that hasn’t put Real off of making an approach with a ‘mega deal’ said to be on the cards.

Chelsea are in need of trimming down their squad this summer, particularly in attack. It’s unclear whether the Blues would entertain offers for Havertz with Mauricio Pochettino not officially starting work with this new club before July 1.
He’ll want to get up to speed quickly on Chelsea’s transfer plans and implement his own ideas too. Reports have indicated that Chelsea themselves will be in the market for a central striker, which could end up forcing Havertz to find a new club.
But Chelsea will likely still want to recoup most of the £75million fee they paid for Havertz three years ago.
