Real Madrid hand Man Utd big Sergio Ramos boost with star ‘on brink of exit’
Sergio Ramos is reportedly set to leave Real Madrid upon the expiry of his contract this summer – which will be music to the ears of Manchester United.
Ramos, 35, has spent the last 16 years at the Bernabeu, scoring 101 goals in 671 appearances for Real and winning five Spanish titles, four Champions Leagues and two Copa del Reys.
But according to AS, the Los Blancos captain is set to walk out on his beloved team when his contract expires on June 30 following a bust-up with club president Florentino Perez.
Contract negotiations between the two parties had already been stalling heading into the final months of his current deal.
However, it is believed Ramos and Perez's relationship is now broken beyond repair after the latter recently implemented a 10 per cent wage cut for Real players.
Ramos reportedly believes the salary deduction was done to help fund a mega-bid for Paris St-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe, and he is now preparing to depart Madrid as a free agent at the end of the month.
The news comes as a major boost for United, who have been heavily linked with a move for the Spain defender, who has been snubbed by Luis Enrique for Euro 2020 this summer, over the past year.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in need of a new centre-back partner for captain Harry Maguire, with Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly proving far too inconsistent at the heart of his defence.
Co-chairman Joel Glazer has made a promise to Solskjaer and United fans that he will do whatever is necessary to propel the club back to the top of world football.
And snapping up Ramos, who rakes in an estimated £15million per year at Real, would be a huge step in the right direction.

Nevertheless, United could face competition from none other than arch-rivals Manchester City for his signature.
Pep Guardiola is also said to be eyeing up his compatriot, who only played 21 times last season due to injury problems.
