Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane ‘wanted by Juventus’ as Andrea Pirlo fights to avoid sack

Real Madrid: Zidane’s verdict after beating Atletico

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is being eyed up by Juventus, as reports suggest the Frenchman could leave the Bernabeu by the end of the season. Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo is under significant pressure after a mediocre start to the season.

Juventus are reportedly looking at Zidane as a potential target for the future.

Having won the Serie A title every year since 2011, they’re currently lagging behind this season.

AC Milan and Inter Milan are leading the way, and Roma are also ahead of them in the table.

Juventus are seven points behind the league leaders – with a game in hand – and are at risk of falling dangerously far behind.

Having parted ways with Maurizio Sarri last summer, they decided to follow in the footsteps of Barcelona, Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea by hiring a former player and rookie manager.

Just nine days after giving Pirlo the head coach job with the under 23s, he was given the top job, with the idea of Juventus having a long-term vision in mind.

In his first season in management, Pirlo has seen them progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League, but club officials apparently aren’t impressed.

As a result, they’ve started looking at future alternatives, with Zidane said to be one of the figures they’re looking at.

Zidane has won three Champions League titles as well as two La Liga titles during his two stints at the helm at the Bernabeu.

But this season, things haven’t been going his way, with Madrid lagging behind arch rivals Atletico Madrid in the La Liga table.

Diego Simeone’s side are seven points clear at the summit with a game in hand, and currently look untouchable.

Things were made worse for Zidane when he saw his side crash out of the Supercopa de Espana at the semi-final stage, only to suffer a humiliating defeat to CD Alcoyano, who were promoted from the fourth tier of Spanish football last year.

Reports have suggested Zidane could depart at the end of the season, and Diario Madridista reports Juventus are watching his situation closely.

They apparently believe that if there’s a team Zidane would be interested in leaving Madrid for, it would be them.

Zidane played more than 200 times for Juventus before leaving for Madrid, and the Allianz Arena is described as his “second home” by the Diario Madridista report.

His contract runs until summer 2022, but at the moment it seems he could well leave beforehand.
