The son of legendary Real Madrid star Marcelo has been called up to Spain’s Under 15s side for the first time.

Enzo Alves, 13, shared his delight at the news, as he posted pictures of himself in the Spain kit on his Instagram page.

It comes despite his father making 58 international appearances for Brazil during his brilliant career.

Alves is eligible to play for Brazil through his family roots, and could still decide to play for them in the future if he wished to do so, but for now he has opted to snub the Selecao in favour of the country where he was born.

Marcelo, who now plays for Brazilian side Fluiminense, shared his delight for his son as he posted a sun emoji in reply to the post, and expressed his ‘infinite pride’ at his son’s achievement.

James Rodriguez and Angel Di Maria, who both played alongside Marcelo at Real Madrid, also sent their congratulations to the youngster.

Alves was born in September 2009 when Marcelo had started just his third full season at the Santiago Bernabeu. The 34-year-old would spend a further 13 years at the club before he left in May 2022.

Alves will take part in the Pinatar Supercup which will take place in Spain later this month in a tournament which also involves England, the USA and Japan.

It comes just four months after the young striker signed a contract with Real Madrid.

Alves is also known to be clinical in front of goal and has been pictured undertaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s infamous SIU and sleeping celebrations when scoring goals for the youth team.

In January, he scored a stunning hat-trick in the derby for the academy side against Atletico Madrid in a 5-2 win

It remains to be seen how far he develops, but Marcelo and his wife were present for the signing of his first contract with the club in what is surely a proud moment for the family.
