Real Betis 0-0 Atletico Madrid: Hosts held to a goalless draw

Real Betis 0-0 Atletico Madrid: Hosts held to a goalless draw by Diego Simeone’s side… days after Antoine Griezmann insists he wants to finish career in MLS

  • No goals for either Spanish side in their second match of the La Liga campaign
  • Barcelona and Real Madrid both took home three points on second matchday
  • Star forwards Memphis Depay and Antoine Griezmann failed to break deadlock

Real Betis and Atletico Madrid struggled to break through on goal in a 0-0 draw for both sides.

Diego Simeone’s visitors were unable to catch a break, despite starting Memphis Depay and Antoine Griezmann up front.

At the final whistle, the points were shared as the colchoneros could not add 3 points, despite a strong second-half display.

It was a change in mood for Atletico Madrid, who secured three points in their 3-1 victory against Granada, thanks to goals from Alvaro Morata, Memphis Depay and Marcos Llorente.

The goalless stand-off came as Real Madrid secured a further three points, thanks to a brace from star new signing Jude Bellingham.

‘I like American sports, I’d like to play in MLS and to enjoy playing there,’ Griezmann said

Barcelona also went away with a 2-0 victory over Cadiz, with late goals from Pedri and Ferran Torres to secure the points.

The draw comes after it was announced that French forward Antoine Griezmann insisted he still wants to finish his career in the United States.

Griezmann permanently rejoined Atletico Madrid from Barcelona last year and is contracted to play in the Spanish capital for another three years.

Isco showed a strong performance throughout, defending high against the visitors and creating the most chances.
