Raul Jimenez 'to have medical with Fulham on Monday'

Raul Jimenez to leave Wolves training camp in Portugal for medical with Fulham on Monday after £5.5m fee agreed between clubs

  • Fulham have agreed a deal to sign striker Raul Jimenez from Wolves for £5.5m
  • The 32-year-old striker will have his medical on Monday before he signs
  • Daniel Podence is also expected to leave in this window after staying in England

Raul Jimenez will leave Wolves’ training camp in Portugal and is set for a medical with Fulham on Monday after a £5.5m fee was agreed.

Daniel Podence is also expected to leave in this window after staying back in England and is training on his own at Compton.

The Mexican had been one of the stand-out performers in Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves side that finished seventh in the Premier League in 2018-19 and 2019-20 on their return to the top-flight.

However a horrific head injury sustained in a challenge with Arsenal’s David Luiz in November 2020 would put an end to his momentum as one of the underrated strikers in the Premier League.

Since the injury, he has managed just nine goals in all competitions as he recovered from the career-threatening accident, and has proven to be a shadow of the player he had shown himself capable of.

Now, though, his fortunes could be set to improve with a change of scenery.

Jimenez has been something of a liminal presence at Molineux of late, making just 15 Premier League appearances in 2022-23 – down from 34 the campaign before.

The signings of Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan of late have therefore seen his place in the hierarchy drop to the extent that he will likely be allowed to leave this summer by Julen Lopetegui.

The Mexican hitman has made 166 appearances for Wolves, scoring 57 goals and assisting another 24, having joined after the World Cup in Russia following an impressive spell with Benfica in Portugal.
