Rashford offers honest opinion on his changing position in Man Utd’s attack

Marcus Rashford says he relishes playing in a variety of roles in Manchester United's attack but admits there are still areas he can improve in.

The 23-year-old spent the vast majority of last season playing on the left flank and achieved a career-best haul of 22 goals in all competitions.

But United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has tinkered with Rashford's role this season by frequently moving him to the right wing or fielding him as a centre-forward.

These positional changes have worked to great effect and the Englishman has already racked up 16 goals, half of which have come in games he started on the right or up front.

Rashford claims his work at United's academy prepared him to play in any attacking role and he is delighted his versatility means he has not missed a Premier League game this season.

“Throughout my academy days, I always tried to train myself to play in all three of those positions up front, just to give myself a better chance of getting into the first team,” Rashford told Goal .

“If you have a player who can play in more than one position, then you’re more likely to be involved. It’s something I always dreamed of doing and now the manager is giving me an opportunity to do that.

“I still think I can improve and do better but I’m pleased that I’ve managed to influence games in different positions and help the team win games.”

Shifting Rashford across the attack has allowed Solskjaer to rotate his other forward options this season, with Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood coming in and out of the line-up.

After hammering Southampton 9-0 in their last outing, the Red Devils return to action on Saturday night as they welcome Everton to Old Trafford.
