Rangnick knows "biggest disappointment" at Man Utd and point it went off rails
Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has named his "biggest disappointment" during his stint at the club.
The German was brought in part-way through the season when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked in November. The Old Trafford hierarchy made the decision not to appoint a new manager mid-way through the campaign, and instead turned to Rangnick to steady the ship.
But since his arrival, United were sent crashing out of the Champions League to Atletico Madrid, and have since gone on to record their lowest ever points tally in a Premier League campaign. It means Rangnick's time at the club has been deemed a failure by many fans, who were quick to throw away any suggestions he should stay on and become the permanent boss.
Instead, United opted to appoint Ajax manager Erik ten Hag in what will be yet another new era for the Red Devils since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson. With Rangnick set for a move upstairs in an advisory role, he has been reflecting on his time at the club and even revealed his biggest regret.
"Since Atletico we just didn’t find our shape or form again," he said. "Before then we had stabilised the team, become more stable defensively. But then we lost confidence and energy.
"It has got to do with confidence, team spirit and togetherness. This is my biggest disappointment that we didn’t establish that team spirit. I still strongly believe that there is a core of players here who are top, good enough to play for this club."

Rangnick has agreed to become Austria's manager when he leaves the Old Trafford dugout, in a role which he will balance with his advisory duties at United. It means ten Hag will take over the hot seat, with Rangnick also revealing that he has spoken with the incoming Dutchman.
"We spoke about that in detail," he added. "We spoke about all the different areas where I could maybe be of help."
Ten Hag is expected to be in the stands at Selhurst Park on Sunday (May 22) to watch his United side in the flesh for the very first time. The Red Devils need a win against Patrick Vieira's Crystal Palace to secure Europa League football next season.
