  • Interim boss Ralf Rangnick has challenged him to reproduce his training level

Ralf Rangnick has challenged Marcus Rashford to win back his place in the Manchester United team amid speculation over his future at Old Trafford.

Rashford started last weekend’s Manchester derby on the bench even though Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood were unavailable, and made little impact when he came on in the second half.

It continued a disappointing run of form for the England international who appears to have fallen behind teenager Anthony Elanga in the pecking order since Rangnick took over as interim boss.

Marcus Rashford has struggled for form in recent weeks and was left out of Manchester United’s starting line-up for last weekend’s derby, making little impact when he came on

It proved to be a chastening afternoon for United, who slumped to a demoralising 4-1 defeat

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has been impressed by Rashford’s application in training but has challenged the forward to reproduce that form in games

The 24-year-old is due to start contract talks soon but is understood to be weighing up his options and open to the prospect of leaving his boyhood club.

Rangnick insists that Rashford has all the qualities to be a top player but urged him to re-produce the form he shows in training on match days.

‘To play in the same level he trains,’ said Rangnick when asked what Rashford must do to get back in the team.

‘We spoke about that week two weeks ago. Marcus is training well, he’s got an abundance of talent, everything you need for a striker. It’s about transforming the training sessions into the games.’
