Rangers make Sam Lammers transfer breakthrough with Cyriel Dessers talks ongoing
Rangers have agreed a deal to sign Atalanta striker Sam Lammers for a fee in the region of £3million with the 26-year-old Dutchman due to undergo a medical at Ibrox. The Glasgow giants have spent several weeks working on the acquisition of the ex-PSV Eindhoven attacker, who will be tasked with replacing Alfredo Morelos when the Colombian departs on a free transfer at the end of June.
Lammers, who won the Europa League during his loan spell with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022, has flattered to deceive since joining Italian side Atalanta in the summer of 2020 in a deal worth just shy of £8.5m.
He mustered just one goal in 19 Serie A outings on loan at relegated Sampdoria this season but is now set to embark on a new chapter in Scotland where he could lead Michael Beale’s new-look attack.
Rangers have already secured the services of Chelsea youngster Dujon Sterling, Norwich’s Kieran Dowell and goalkeeper Jack Butland as they seek to close the gap on Celtic following the departure of Ange Postecoglou.
The ‘Gers also remain in talks with MLS side Los Angeles FC over the signing of highly-rated Ecuadorian midfielder Jose Cifuentes, who is understood to be keen on the move.

Lammers is unlikely to represent the only new arrival in attack with Rangers also continuing to work on the signing of Cremonese frontman Cyriel Dessers.
There is currently a gap in valuation between what the ‘Gers are prepared to pay and Cremonese’s valuation of the Nigeria international following their relegation from Serie A.
Dessers struck 10 times in 32 outings in all competitions this season having previously flourished in the Conference League with Feyenoord during the 2021/22 campaign when he struck an impressive 10 times in the competition, before the Rotterdam giants were defeated by Roma in the final.
Rangers boss Beale recently declared there is still a future for Croatian striker Antonio Colak at Ibrox despite the desire to overhaul his frontline following the exits of Morelos and Ryan Kent.

He said of the Croat in the final weeks of the season: “Moving forward there will be competition coming into the squad and Tony [Colak] will fight it out with those guys. His goalscoring record gives me optimism.
“If he has a good pre-season and comes out of it, then I will get the Antonio Colak we had in August and September. Does he have a future here? Yeah. But he will have to take on the challenge like everyone else.
“I want to drive competition in the squad and he won’t shy away from it. He backs himself. If someone doesn’t want competition, they aren’t at the right club.”
The future of the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year Malik Tillman remains up for debate, however, amid reported interest from the Premier League.
Tillman was exceptional during his loan switch from Bayern Munich and Rangers still possesses a £5m option to buy.
Yet the USMNT attacker is expected to assess his options this summer with the likes of Burnley understood to be keen on his services.
Rangers have also confirmed the departures of Filip Helander, Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor who are all moving onto pastures new.
Meanwhile, Celtic are believed to be in dialogue with Brendan Rodgers over a return to Glasgow with former Norwich boss Daniel Farke also under consideration following his dismissal at Borussia Monchengladbach.
