Rangers and Dortmund fans split by police as ill-timed ‘bombers’ song sang
Rangers and Dortmund fans had to be split up by police at Ibrox as tensions grew before kick-off.
And ill-timed chants from the home side about “German bombers” were sang when the game got underway, forcing a backlash from those listening on given European war developments on Thursday.
Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered his military to invade Ukraine in the early hours of the morning. But despite this, Rangers fans were heard during their Europa League encounter with Borussia Dortmund making chants about German bombers.
Footage from before the match showed that tensions were already at a high, with Dortmund fans being pushed back by police and stewards, who tried to avoid violence erupting between them and the Scottish supporters.
The Daily Record report that a steward was injured in the clashes.
BT Sport’s Darrell Currie said: “One quick incident to report on, there has been a bit of trouble in the away end.
"Some of the fans spilled onto the track alongside the pitch. One steward has been taken away on a stretcher. Let’s hope everyone is OK.”
It comes after the news that UEFA have planned to scrap plans of having the Champions League final played in St Petersburg amid the conflict.
It’s reported that UEFA will take the 2022 Champions League final away from St Petersburg following Russia's invasion.
European football's governing body are set to have an emergency meeting on Friday where they are expected to withdraw plans to have the final held in the Russian city at its stadium the Gazprom Arena.
Do you think the fans should be banned for chanting the song? Let us know in the comments section.

Fifa president Gianni Infantino recently stated: “Fifa condemns the use of force by Russia in Ukraine and any type of violence to resolve conflicts. Violence is never a solution and Fifa calls on all parties to restore peace through constructive dialogue.
"The first match is in one month from now, we hope that this whole situation will be solved before then," Infantino said. "We want to strongly believe in that."
Meanwhile, AC Milan legend Andriy Shevchenko and Ukraine's all-time record goalscorer called on Russia "to stop their aggression and violation of international law".
"My people and my family are under attack," he wrote in a post on social media. "We only want peace. War is not the answer."
