Ralf Rangnick wants Man Utd board to sell three 'mood killers' this month

Ralf Rangnick is being frustrated in his attempts to reshape Manchester United’s squad after requesting that three ‘mood killers’ are sold this month, according to reports.

The German coach has had a mixed start to life at Old Trafford, though recovered from disappointing performances – and dropped points – against Wolves and Aston Villa to secure an important victory away to Brentford in midweek.

But there are still issues swirling around the club, with a host of players believed to be unhappy with a lack of game time and keen to leave – yet so far United have not offloaded anyone in January.

Anthony Martial is the player who appears to be most desperate to leave, and now German publication SportBild report that he is one of a trio of players Rangnick would happily sell.

Along with Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani, the three United stars are described as ‘mood killers’ and Rangnick is pushing to sell them this month.

Martial has not played a single minute under the former RB Leipzig boss and publicly clashed with his manager over claims he had refused to play against Villa.

Pogba, likewise, has been injured throughout Rangnick’s brief reign so far and is set to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer in the summer, with talks over a contract extension having broken down a long time ago.

Cavani has also entered the final six months of his contract, and the trio – who wield a lot of influence within the squad – are reportedly not buying into Rangnick’s philosophy.

Bild claim the three stars are not enamoured with Rangnick’s intense style of play or the detailed instructions he gives to players, while his decision to move training to late in the afternoon – when they would rather be at home – has not gone down well either.

The trio could have the potential to turn other players against Rangnick, though United’s hierarchy will not cede to their manager’s wish and have little intention of letting them leave – partly because finding buyers for them in January is tremendously difficult.

Rangnick had hoped to bring in reinforcements this month, namely Leipzig’s Amadou Haidara, but United’s board feel it would be short-sighted to reshape the squad around a manager that will not be at the club beyond the end of the season.
