Ralf Rangnick is set to face the media for the first time since taking over as Manchester United boss on Friday morning.

The German was watching on from the stands on Thursday night as Michael Carrick guided the side to a 3-2 win over Arsenal, but now he is set to take charge of the team himself.

Their first game is at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday, and Rangnick is due to speak to the media this morning. Join Sportsmail’s BEN NAGLE for all the updates.

‘At the time, when Chelsea contacted me, they only spoke about the possibility of four months and no prospective of further than that. Here, we are talking about six and a half months and a two year advisory role. If a club like Manchester United contacts you, you cannot possibly turn it down.’

I would like to say hello to everybody, thanks for getting up early. It’s the most early press conference of my life. Due to the game on Sunday, and training, there was no alternative. I’m looking forward to the next few days, weeks and months with you [the press].

Ralf Rangnick has arrived to speak to the media… here we go!

Get yourself a cuppa and settle down, because we’re just a few minutes away from Rangnick stepping in front of the press for the first time as Manchester United manager…

A little bit of info on the man himself, before he steps in front of the cameras in a few minutes’ time.

Rangnick was brought up in Backnung, north of Stuttgart, and came through the Bundesliga team’s academy. He didn’t reach the top level as a player, but instead coaching is where he really found his talents.

After various spells in the B team and Under 19s, as well as time at a number of lower-league clubs in Germany, Rangnick burst onto the scene with the Stuttgart first team in 1999.

After two years there, he moved on to Hannover, Schalke and Hoffenheim, his longest spell coming at the latter.

He is, of course, best known for his two spells at RB Leipzig, building the club up to become one of the biggest forces in German football, and he has not held a top coaching role since he left the club in 2019.

Now, though, he’s back in the spotlight at perhaps the biggest club in the world…

New boss, same location… this is where we’re expecting to see Rangnick in about 25 minutes

Well, as with any press conference, Rangnick will be asked about injuries – especially with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw both missing last night.

On top of that, there will be questions on how he’s settled at Old Trafford, the performance last night, and the job Carrick did in his three games in charge.

In truth, although it’s a Palace preview press conference, the Eagles are unlikely to be high on the agenda…

There is now just 30 minutes to go until Rangnick steps in front of the media for the first time as Manchester United boss…

While much of the focus, understandably, is on Palace and Rangnick’s opening game on Sunday, he will also have one eye on the rest of the month, with plenty of huge games to come.

After Palace, United host Young Boys in the Champions League looking to secure top spot in their group, before a trip to Norwich in the league.

After that, it’s: Brentford (A), Brighton (H), Newcastle (A), Burnley (H).

That’s seven games THIS MONTH… and a huge few weeks for the new boss.

One huge boost for Rangnick this morning is that he’s facing the media in the wake of a brilliant 3-2 victory over Arsenal last night.

Michael Carrick was in the dugout, and he managed to steer the team to all three points – thanks in part to two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo.

That will likely make it a bit easier for Rangnick, who will be sure to praise the work Carrick has done while in temporary charge of the team.

He guided the Red Devils to two wins – against Villarreal and United – and a draw away at Chelsea, before opting to leave the club last night.

Of course, we haven’t heard too much from Rangnick as of yet, but he did say a few words when United confirmed his arrival at the club.

‘I am excited to be joining Manchester United and focused on making this a successful season for the club. The squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience.

‘All my efforts for the next six months will be on helping these players fulfil their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team. Beyond that, I look forward to supporting the club’s longer-term goals on a consultancy basis.’

It’s been a pretty hectic start to life at United for the German manager, who was in the stands at Old Trafford last night to watch his side beat Arsenal 3-2.

It is, of course, only going to get busier from here, with a huge number of matches across the next few weeks.

First up, it’s Palace… and today is Rangnick’s official first day in the job.
