Ralf Rangnick has arrived in the UK ahead of becoming Manchester United's new interim manager.
But the German will still not be in charge for United's crunch clash with Arsenal on Thursday – and might not be at the helm for the weekend visit of Crystal Palace as well.
While Rangnick has been allowed to fly to Manchester from Moscow, where he was working as Lokomotiv's sporting director, he is unable to start his new role at Old Trafford due to ongoing visa problems.
It is understood the nature of his role at Lokomotiv means Rangnick's application for a working visa in the UK has hit red tape complications.
To complicate things further, the problem has been worsened by stricter Covid rules for travellers arriving in the UK that came into force in the early hours of this morning.
Rangnick was forced to undergo a Covid test after touching down in England and has to isolate until he returns a negative test.
But provided he does so, there is nothing stopping him from sitting in the stands to watch United take on the Gunners.
Caretaker boss Michael Carrick will remain in charge until Rangnick is allowed to take up his role at the training ground and start working with the squad.
The former Schalke, Hoffenheim and Leipzig coach will take charge of the team on a six month deal until the end of the season.
He will then take up the role of 'Senior Football Advisor' at Old Trafford on a two year deal and will be involved in the process of choosing his permanent successor.
