Some stars at Manchester united are reportedly becoming unsettled due to Cristiano Ronaldo’s role within the side and the dressing room, and Ralf Rangnick must act to ensure there isn’t a mass exodus at Old Trafford.
New Manchester United interim boss has arrived at Old Trafford in a seemingly very fortunate position, as he’s blessed with one of the greatest players of all time at his disposal.
Cristiano Ronaldo made a sensational return to United this summer as his former side fended off interest from neighbouring rivals Manchester City to complete a move, and with 13 goals in 18 appearances, it’s been a successful one.
However, as well as the world class ability that comes with Ronaldo, a sizeable ego follows which can be excused due to the fact that the 36-year-old has won five Ballon d’Or’s throughout a glamorous career.
Unfortunately though, Ronaldo’s presence appears to be unsettling a number of stars, and Rangnick must resolve the situation to avoid a major issue at United.
Ronaldo is undoubtedly one of the greatest goal scorers of all time, and with 800 career goals to his name, as well as being the leading international and Champions League goal scorer, it’s hard to argue against his greatness.
No team is a one man band however, and Ronaldo’s role is reportedly frustrating a number of stars at the club, with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood linked with moves away from Old Trafford.
Ronaldo may still be excellent right now, but Rashford and Greenwood are still United’s stars for the future, and it’s imperative that Rangnick prioritises their happiness to ensure that they remain at the club.
The Portuguese star deserves to be the main man for now, but his impact won’t last forever, and the novelty of his wonder return has certainly worn off now that the season nears the halfway stage.
As we approach the January transfer window, rumours naturally start to escalate and reports in Spain have suggested that Barcelona are seriously interested in signing Rashford as they eye a quick replacement for Sergio Aguero.
Mundo Deportivo have claimed the forward is on Barcelona’s radar as they look to sign a replacement for Aguero, and the same report has suggested that a move could be possible as in June 2020, they reported that Rashford had actually agreed to join Barcelona in 2018.
And Rashford isn’t alone is being linked with a move away, as El Nacional have claimed that Greenwood is looking for a way out of United due to growing frustration that Ronaldo plays no matter how well he is performing.
The report also states that Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes are finding the situation frustrating, and both Cavani and Martial are also looking to leave United either in January or at the end of the season.
Of course, there is frustration around United anyway due to their lacklustre season so far, and if all things were going smoothly then this may not be as much of an issue as reports are currently suggesting.
Rangnick though, does not have an easy task on his hands as it is, but the experienced manager needs to put all of his expertise to good use and resolve the unrest within the camp, and ensure that his young stars feel valued as much as the Portuguese star.
In an ideal world, Rangnick would have all of his stars happy and content, but this is football in the modern day, and miracles such as that do not occur.
Should it come to it, Rangnick should put his young guns first, as the long-term future of the club could be at risk, and if Ronaldo really does love United, he should do all he can to assist his side and his teammates.
