Raheem Sterling is switching up his diet after claiming that weight gain caused him to suffer from hamstring problems during his maiden campaign at Stamford Bridge.
The 28-year-old is planning on cutting down his caloric intake in order to trim down before the new season commences.
The former United forward is currently away in the United States with the Blues, and featured in their pre-season friendly win over Wrexham, with the Premier League giants thumping the newly-promoted League Two outfit 5-0.
He said: ‘In the season I changed a bit of my diet and went to do something a little bit different that I had not done before.
‘And I had a little bit more kilograms on me that I have not had before. I think probably carrying a little bit of extra weight I had a few hamstring problems and that was it.

Sterling was left out of England’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia
‘Towards the end of the season the hamstring was playing up again.
‘Me and the manager made a decision together that the best thing for me to do was to get the hamstring right.’
When asked about what he is now doing different, he replied: ‘Just eating a little bit less.’
Sterling missed eight games last season due to a reoccurring hamstring injury which plagued his progress in January and March.
Like most of the Chelsea squad, he failed to hit the ground running in 2022/23 and only managed to bag six goals from 28 Premier League appearances.
His below-par performances meant he was left out of England’s Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Malta and North Macedonia in June.
But Sterling is planning on clawing his way back into Gareth Southgate’s side with a fresh diet plan and renewed vigour.
