Raheem Sterling snubs signing Man City top after Chelsea signing

Raheem Sterling has been caught on camera snubbing a fan who asked him to sign a Manchester City shirt after he signed for Chelsea.

The England international ended his seven-year stay at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, completing a £50million move to Chelsea to become the first signing since Todd Boehly's takeover. He has joined his new team-mates in the USA, where the Blues are gearing up for the new season with a string of friendly matches.

A clip of Sterling during the tour shows the 27-year-old signing shirts for supporters, but he turns down one fan holding up a City shirt.

Sterling can be seen refusing to sign the shirt and appears to say "no" before he turns away from the fan. He made a total of 337 appearances for City, scoring 131 goals and winning four league titles.

Chelsea fans have since praised Sterling on social media, with one tweeting: “Raheem Sterling refused to sign a City jersey knowing what we went through with Lukaku. Already a legend in my eyes.”

Another hit back at fans criticising Sterling by adding: "He's at a new club and barely 3 days he joined, you want him to give a bad impression to his new set of fans?"

The former Liverpool forward is not the first player to refuse to sign a fan's shirt this summer, though, with new Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner doing the same.

Before completing his switch to the Emirates Stadium from the New England Revolution, Turner shunned a fan holding up a Tottenham Hotspur shirt for him to sign.

Sterling has yet to make his Chelsea debut and was absent from their opening pre-season friendly against Club America on Saturday, with the Blues winning the match 2-1.

He has, however, been praised by his England team-mate Mason Mount, who told Sky Sports, via The Mirror: "I have been lucky to play with him over the last couple of years with England, where he has captained the team at times.

"He is someone who has been there for a very long time. He is a top player and I have learnt a lot off of him over the last couple of years."

Chelsea fans could see Sterling in action for the first time later this week, with Thomas Tuchel's side facing Charlotte FC on Wednesday.
