Punches were thrown by Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund fans ahead of their Champions League group stage clash on Wednesday night.
Newcastle hosted their second Group F game of the competition at St James’ Park, having come away with a 4-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain on October 4. But as was the case against the Parisians, tempers flared between the two sets of supporters before kick-off.
Dortmund fans, led by ultras, belted out chants in both English and German as they made their way towards the stadium. The Magpies faithful lined the streets while a heavy police presence sought to separate the fans.

But several clips have now emerged on social media of Newcastle and Dortmund fans clashing. One clip shows several supporters trading blows over a metal fence while police attempt to separate the culprits.
Another clip shows a line of police officers protected with helmets ushering Dortmund fans draped in yellow scarves towards the stadium. Dortmund fans could be seen exchanging words with their opposition supporters, while a Magpies fan could be seen holding a black flare aloft.

Another video, allegedly filmed in Newcastle town centre, again shows a violent scuffle breaking out with police surrounded on both sides. Objects such as bottles could be seen being thrown by both groups.
Police had promised a “visible presence” in Newcastle city centre ahead of the fixture. It came after tensions boiled over before and after the Magpies’ first Champions League game at home for two decades against PSG.
One PSG fan was filmed punching a random member of the public as fans marched around Newcastle before their contest. The fan threw a right-handed punch towards the face of the target before slipping back into the group.
The clip was posted after Keith Downie of Sky Sports detailed some of the pre-match clashes on that occasion. He reported PSG 'ultras' were led to St James' Park by police as fighting broke out between fans on Barrack Road.
He added that bottles, cones and missiles were thrown in the street brawl and it all took place up to 90 minutes before the game kicked off.
