Pulisic spotted ‘expecting the worst’ with Werner’s Chelsea goal from one yard
Timo Werner opened the scoring for Chelsea in their Champions League semi-final clash with Real Madrid – however, Christian Pulisic was already expecting the worst.
The American, like Werner, opened the scoring last week for Chelsea – before Karim Benzema pulled one back for Los Blancos.
When Kai Havertz shot ricocheted off the bar and the ball fell to Werner, it looked almost impossible to miss: but Pulisic already had his hands on his head.
However, to the Americans delight, Werner was able to head the ball into the empty net, and give Chelsea the upper hand in the tie.
Werner has largely missed the mark with Chelsea so far this season, and with only six Premier League goals this campaign, his performances have come under criticism often
"Chelsea have finally found a way to get Werner on the score sheet, the only shots he can't miss are the ones on the line," one fan tweeted.
Another remarked: "I wouldn’t have been surprised if Werner had missed that."
A Twitter page has even gained traction up under the handle 'Did Werner miss a good chance.'
Werner signed for Chelsea last summer for £47 million from RB Leipzig, and he fired the German side into the Champions League semi-finals with 34 goals in all competitions.
He has yet to recapture that form in London – but, Chris Sutton has tipped Werner for glory should he deliver Chelsea a Champions League trophy.
