Paris Saint-Germain have announced Neymar will miss six to eight weeks of action after he suffered ankle ligament damage during their win over Saint-Etienne on Sunday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side beat Saint-Etienne 3-1 thanks to a hat-trick of Lionel Messi assists and extended their lead at the top of the Ligue 1.
But the French side were reluctant to celebrate the result given their Brazilian forward was stretchered off the pitch with an injury in the 85th minute.

Neymar fell to the ground and immediately called out for help from his team-mates and the PSG medical staff after Yvann Macon’s sliding tackle.
However, it was not the impact from the tackle itself that caused the injury. Instead, the injury came from the Brazilian forward landing awkwardly in his ankle.
Neymar tried to jump over Macon’s leg to avoid the incoming challenge. However, he landed on the defender’s shin and subsequently rolled his ankle – causing the outcry for help.
As a result, the medics rushed onto the pitch to attended to Neymar before placing him on a stretcher. The Brazilian forward was then carried off the pitch and down the tunnel to receive further treatment.

PSG’s sporting director Leonardo was seen watching on from the stands as his star forward was withdrawn from the game.
Neymar was subsequently replaced by Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe after being carried off the pitch.
A statement from PSG on Monday afternoon confirmed a ‘sprained left ankle with ligament injuries’ will rule him out for six to eight weeks.
The former Barcelona star took to Instagram to confirm the status of his injury and tell his followers that he will return ‘better and stronger’ than before.
The Instagram post, shared on Sunday afternoon, said: ‘Unfortunately, these setbacks are a part of an athlete’s life. Now you have to raise your head and move on. I will come back better and stronger.’

Pochettino told reporters at his post-match press conference: ‘For the moment there is nothing to say.
‘He felt pain from the twist of his ankle. Tomorrow, he will take exams and we will know a little more about his injury.’
It is a blow to Pochettino’s plans for the next couple of months but PSG have already established a 12-point lead at the top of Ligue 1.
They have also booked their place in the last-16 of the Champions League but cannot clinch top spot in Group A with one match left to play.
