PSG star Kylian Mbappe booed in home city as he arrives for Ballon d’Or awards

Kylian Mbappe was roundly booed upon arrival at the Ballon d’Or.

The Paris Saint-Germain star turned up to the luxury Theatre Du Chatelet wearing a flash tuxedo. But he was met with jeers from those in his home city of Paris, with recent reports of disgruntlement at being with his current side thought to be at the heart of it.

The PSG star signed a long-term deal only this year despite links with a move to Real Madrid. But this month, speculation has mounted from all corners about him being unhappy with how things are at the club and that he wants to move away.

It is thought that the star is unhappy with the club as they did not bring in a number nine to play alongside him – but in fact, the club had already spent its allocation tying Mbappe down to a new deal and so could not afford to meet the star’s demands.

But amid the talk of Mbappe and his alleged desire to leave the Parc des Princes, the star came out to squash such ideas.

After PSG’s Champions League clash with Benfica last week, Mbappe told reporters that such news was false.

“I didn’t understand why the story came out on the day of a game. I was as shocked as everyone,” he said.

“People can think I was involved but I wasn’t at all. There are people who may think I'm involved in this, but I'm not involved, I was taking a nap. My entourage was at my little brother's game, all the people who take care of me weren't there so we were flabbergasted when we heard about it.

"Afterwards, we had to deal with it, there was a game to play. Just to say that it is completely wrong and I am very happy."

Last year, when his contract with the Ligue 1 outfit was approaching its expiration, reports suggested there was an agreement for Mbappe to join Real. This turned out to be not the case and he signed a fresh three-year deal with PSG.

Reports suggest that the move has tarnished any hope the youngster has of joining the Spanish giants now, but this could also be used as a leverage technique.
