PSG star Gianluigi Donnarumma drops Messi transfer hint ahead of announcement
Italian shot-stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma has revealed that he believes Lionel Messi is on the verge of signing for PSG and that he will be his teammate ‘soon’.
After contract negotiations with Barcelona broke down last week, signing Messi has been PSG’s newfound priority and they have offered the Argentine a two-year contract which can be extended a further year.
If accepted, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner will earn €481,000 a week and also receive a €25m signing fee, figures that justify why the cash-strapped Barca simply cannot afford to renew their boyhood star’s contract – though Messi did offer to take a 50% pay cut to stay at the club.
Currently, PSG and Messi’s representatives are working on the finer details of the move, but the French giants’ new signing Donnarumma has silenced anyone doubting the likelihood of the transfer.
In an interview with TuttoMercatoWeb, the Euro 2020 Player of the Tournament said: “It’s not official yet, but I think it will be soon. I am delighted that he is coming here. He is great; the best in the world.
“I am excited and happy at the thought of having him on the team. It’ll be an honour to play with him.”
Such comments will send shivers down the spines of Barca fans, who are distraught at seeing their club legend depart so suddenly after 17 very successful years at the Nou Camp.
Will PSG win the Champions League if they sign Messi? Comment below
If Messi does move to the Ligue 1 then PSG’s transfer window will go down as one of the best summer sprees in history.
Mauricio Pochettino has signed Georginio Wijnaldum (Liverpool), Donnarumma (AC Milan) and Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid) on free transfers as well as paying an initial £52m for young, versatile defender Achraf Hakimi (Inter Milan).
So adding one of the greatest of all time to their already exceptionally talented squad makes the nine-time title winners firm favourites to win the Champions League, which is widely known as one of the clubs biggest targets.
If Messi can directly contribute to that success during his time at Le Parc des Princes then the club’s Qatari owners will feel that the 34-year-old is worth every penny of his significant weekly wage.
