Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly started discussions with Zinedine Zidane about him replacing Mauricio Pochettino. PSG were initially looking to appoint Zidane next summer but could bring forward those plans to mid-season. That would be a boost for Manchester United who view Pochettino as one of their top targets to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United sacked Solskjaer last Sunday following a run of one win in seven Premier League matches.

The Old Trafford club stated they would look for an interim manager to take over until the end of the season.

Michael Carrick is in temporary charge while they look for the ideal candidate.

However, United would look to hire Pochettino mid-season if that opportunity arises.

And, according to French outlet Le Parisien, that could soon be the case.

The report claims Zidane has held talks with PSG for several weeks.

The initial plan was to bring the Frenchman in next summer.

However, that could now be brought forward to bring him in during the season.

United would have to pay PSG compensation to free Pochettino from his contract.

But PSG are seemingly already planning for life without the Argentine.

Le Parisien says luring a ‘galactic’ manager like Zidane is no longer a fantasy, but in fact a ‘dream about to come true’.

Speaking earlier this week, Pochettino insisted he was happy at PSG.

After the 2-1 Champions League loss to Manchester City on Wednesday, the former Tottenham boss refused to comment on rumours.

“The players know very well our situation,” Pochettino said.

“We know their situation. We are living in a business that rumours are there, sometimes negative, sometimes positive. That is not a thing to talk about – the rumours.”

However, French football expert Julien Laurens reckons Pochettino will soon leave for United, making way for Zidane to go to Paris.

“I think they [United] will get him now and I think Zinedine Zidane will come in to replace him,” Laurens told talkSPORT.

“If Poch really wants to go, doesn’t want to be on the PSG bench, why would you keep him there and force him to stay? When your players and you will know that he doesn’t want to be there.

“Let him go, get the money in, bring Zidane on a free, and I think everyone will be happy and everyone will be a winner.”
