PSG ace says it was "simple to defend" vs Man City in hint to rivals

Paris Saint-Germain star Idrissa Gueye has admitted it was "simple" to defend against Manchester City in the Champions League.

It comes after the 2-0 win from the French side over the Premier League champions, which could give their rivals some pointed tips.

City travelled to Paris this week to face the favourites to win the competition this year after Mauricio Pochettino signed Lionel Messi.

It gives them a ferocious attack, that also includes Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, and they combined to help give PSG the win over Pep Guardiola's men.

But it was former Everton star Gueye who gave the Ligue 1 giants the lead after a fine finish of his own.

And the Senegal international has explained how they made defending against City simple, despite their dominance of the Premier League.

“The most important thing is to remain solid,” Gueye told RMC Sport.

“It wasn't an easy match and we were able to defend well, play on the counter and get opportunities. We were able to score, and now we need to concentrate on the next game.

“We had to stay compact in the middle and make the most of our counters to score.

"Today it was simple to defend because they didn't have a lot of pace.

“The most important thing is the entire team's performance. We had to win after the draw in Bruges.

"We attacked as a team, we defended as a team. Now we need to prepare the next match well.”

Gueye's comments could lead to some Premier League teams adopting their tactics after effectively keeping City at bay with relative ease.

The Etihad outfit are still the favourites to win the league for a fourth time in five years, especially after beating their biggest challengers Chelsea at Stamford Bridge at the weekend.
