Private jet ready for Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea prepare for Club World Cup final

Chelsea have readied a private jet to whisk Thomas Tuchel to the Club World Cup if he tests negative for Covid.

Tuchel needs to provide two negative results before he can travel to Abu Dhabi and link up with his squad.

The club are prepared to fly him out on Saturday morning – just hours before the final – to oversee preparations.

Chelsea have been without their German boss for the past week after he tested positive for Covid on Saturday.

But he is keen to make the Club World Cup final against Palmeiras, and is ready to make the trip at short notice.

Tuchel has been involved with the team throughout the tournament despite his enforced self-isolation.

Although assistants Arno Michels and Zsolt Low have taken charge of training in his absence, the former Borussia Dortmund boss has still overseen preparations via video conferences and phone calls.

Technical director and club legend Petr Cech has also been heavily involved on the ground in the Middle East.

However, Tuchel's absence left a glaring hole on the bench during Wednesday's cagey 1-0 against Al Hilal.

Tuchel had to call his coaches during the half-time break to tell them to calm the players down.

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho admitted that the German's arrival would give the players a real boost ahead of the final.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, he said: "Of course it gives you more. There's more energy in the changing room. It'll be really important for us if he could be here. That's what we hope but at the moment we just don't know. We can hope."

"His energy helps a lot but he's not here now and the staff is trying to do their best. We can feel that. We feel sorry Thomas is not here with us but he's involved all the time, in touch with the staff and team. We can feel the staff, all of them, are doing their best."

The Blues will become only the third English side to win the Club World Cup if they can beat Palmeiras on Saturday.
