How much is each place worth in the Premier League?
Premier League merit payments are awarded on a sliding scale from first place down to last.
Based on the prize money from previous seasons, recently-crowned champions Manchester City can expect to receive around £44 million in merit payments alone.
And with each place in the Premier League worth roughly £2.2 million, season-long title challengers Arsenal will walk away with around £41.8 million.
Basement boys Southampton, who have already been relegated after a ten year stay in the top flight, will be given £2.2 million for finishing up in last place.
The Premier League is the only division in English football to offer prize money based on final league positions.
