Premier League LIVE as Everton, Leicester and Leeds in fight to avoid relegation

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag previews the Fulham game

It’s the final day of the 2022-23 Premier League season. Although the title race has been decided and the top four tussle is already complete, there are three teams who are still battling to avoid the drop into the Championship. Leeds, Leicester and Everton are all in a scrap to avoid going down.

Going into match-day 38, Southampton are already relegated while 19th-placed Leeds and Leicester in 18th both sit on 31 points. Everton are on 33 points in 17th and know that victory at home to Bournemouth would keep them safe whatever their rivals do.

Leicester – Premier League champions in 2015-16 – need to beat West Ham and hope that Everton draw or lose. Similarly, Leeds need to win against Tottenham and need Leicester to draw or lose and Everton to lose.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Brentford are all looking to claim the final European spot. Seventh place qualifies for the Europa Conference League and Villa host Europa League-bound Brighton, while Spurs are at Leeds and Brentford host champions Manchester City.

Relegation permutations

A reminder of what the teams at the bottom need to happen today to avoid falling down into the Championship…

Everton (vs Bournemouth)

– Need to win and they’re safe whatever happens at Leicester or Leeds

– If they draw, they need Leicester and Leeds not to win – if Leicester win, they’re down or if Leeds win by at least three goals

– If they lose, they need Leicester and Leeds not to win – if one were to win, Everton go down

Leicester City (vs West Ham)

– Need to win and Everton not to win

Leeds United (vs Tottenham)

– Need to win and both Everton and Leicester not to win

– If Leeds win, Leicester don’t win but Everton draw, Whites must win by at least three goals
