A Premier League star was attacked by masked thugs wielding machetes in his own home and tied up along with his terrified partner.

The player, who has not been named, was dragged around his house by the assailants who forced their way into the £1.5million house, according to The Sun.

The balaclava-clad gang broke into the property during the recent international break thinking the footballer has travelled abroad and would not be at home.

But the player had been released from his national team and was watching TV as four men crashed in through a glass door. His partner was in the bath at the time of the attack.

A source told The Sun: "It’s everyone’s worst nightmare. He was pretty brave and did his best, but he was outnumbered and they were pretty aggressive.

"The player lives a pretty low-profile life off the pitch, so he was shocked to be targeted. He doesn’t flash his wealth and enjoys being as normal as possible."

Police told The Sun: "Entry was forced to the property and jewellery, along with other household items, were stolen. Inquiries are ongoing."

It is not the first time a Premier League footballer has been targeted in such a horrific way.

Back in March, Everton goalkeeper Robin Olsen and his family were also raided by an armed gang at their home in Cheshire.

Olsen was at home with his two children at the time of the attack.

Last May, Tottenham Hotspur and England midfielder Dele Alli was attacked by two knifemen at his £2million home.

In May 2020, Tottenham and England star Dele Alli was held at knifepoint and punched by violent burglars who stole thousands of pounds worth of jewellery and expensive watches.

In the aftermath of that horrifying incident, some fearful footballers acquired guard dogs for extra protection and increased security at their homes.
