POWER RANKINGS: Form man Almiron scores once again
Haaland returns to save Man City, Salah reminds everyone how good he is with double against Spurs and Almiron scores AGAIN… but can anyone beat the Newcastle man to top spot in POWER RANKINGS after he fired the Magpies into third?
- The Premier League continued at the weekend with the World Cup break nearing
- Arsenal and Manchester City continued to set the pace with narrow victories
- Newcastle moved into third with a 4-1 drubbing of a poor Southampton side
- Mo Salah fired Liverpool to a much needed 2-1 league away win at Tottenham
- Sportsmail have brought you a Power Rankings table – listing the top 10 players
LAST WEEK’S TOP 10
1. Miguel Almiron
2. Erling Haaland
3. Bukayo Saka
4. Callum Wilson
5. David De Gdea
6. Harry Kane
7. Reiss Nelson
8. Leandro Trossard
9. Aleksandr Mitrovic
10. Casemiro
The latest round of Premier League action saw plenty of goals and dramatic matches in what is proving to be a hugely entertaining season.
Arsenal and Manchester City both secured narrow victories to continue setting the pace at the top of the league, while Newcastle moved into third with a 4-1 rout of Southampton that saw Ralph Hasenhuttl lose his job.
Unai Emery got off to a winning start as Aston Villa manager with a 3-1 win over Manchester United, Mo Salah fired Liverpool to victory against Tottenham and an ever-improving Leicester ran out comfortable 2-0 winners versus Everton at Goodison Park.
With all that in mind, Sportsmail have brought you a Power Rankings table – listing the top 10 players in the Premier League following this weekend’s action.
10. Aleksandr Mitrovic – DOWN ONE
There was a gaping hole in the Fulham team when it was announced at 2pm on Sunday, with Mitrovic’s name missing.
It wasn’t ideal for Fulham, who were without their talisman for a game against champions Manchester City, but it also wasn’t ideal for Mitrovic himself or his country Serbia, who will need him fit an firing at the World Cup this winter.
He has scored nine goals in 12 games this season and helped propel Fulham to ninth in the Premier League upon their return to the division, and Carlos Vinicius was unable to provide the same threat as the 28-year-old leading the line for Marco Silva’s side.
It wasn’t a game Fulham would have expected to win anyway, and Silva may have been resting him ahead of the final game before the break against Manchester United later this week, with the forward carrying an ankle issue and one yellow card away from suspension.
Aleksandar Mitrovic has been carrying an injury and missed Fulham’s loss to Manchester City
9. William Saliba – NEW ENTRY
Saliba is the talk of the town at the moment after bursting onto the Premier League scene with Arsenal upon his return to the club from a loan spell at Marseille.
He’s been the key man in Arsenal’s defence this season – arguably the key man of their whole team – and shone once again as Mikel Arteta’s side won their London derby against Chelsea on Sunday.
At just 21, the Frenchman is already being touted as one of the best central defenders in the league, and seems certain to go to the World Cup with his country.
What a player he has been for Arsenal this season, helping drive them into a position where they are now serious title contenders, as admitted by Arteta himself.
William Saliba has been incredibly impressive for Arsenal since starting regularly for the side

8. Leandro Trossard – NON-MOVER
Though Trossard wasn’t on the scoresheet for Brighton against Wolves on Saturday, he set up Adam Lallana’s opener and proved once again why he is rated so highly by many.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi loves him, and his flexibility that allows him to play across the front four is a massive plus.
He caused Wolves so many problems, often dragging defenders out of position to allow for runners from deep to create chaos in the home defence.
There’s little doubt he will be back on the scoresheet, and could climb the rankings once again when he is.
Leandro Trossard wasn’t on the scoresheet for Brighton but impressed again and got an assist
7. Callum Wilson – DOWN THREE
Newcastle netted four at Southampton and cost Ralph Hasenhuttl his job, but Wilson wasn’t on the scoresheet.
He admitted on his podcast that he was feeling under the weather in the week, but it appeared he was well enough to start. His withdrawal at half time, however, suggested otherwise.
His side didn’t miss him but he would have hoped he could put in another strong showing with Gareth Southgate in the stands and the final England squad set to be named this week.
There’s a high chance he will still be in that squad however, and will fancy himself for one last big day out before the tournament against a struggling Chelsea this weekend.

6. James Maddison – NEW ENTRY
It’s quite sensational that it doesn’t look as if Maddison will be in Southgate’s squad, but that decision certainly will not be down to footballing ability.
The midfielder ran the show once again for an ever-improving Leicester side as they comfortably beat Everton at Goodison, and his manager Brendan Rodgers couldn’t have talked him up more after the game.
‘For me it’s not a debate, that’s the reality’, Rodgers said on whether Maddison should be in the England squad. ‘I understand there’s lots of top players, and it’s great to see so many attacking players doing really well. [But] you see him tonight, his ability on the ball, his awareness, his cleverness. If you want to be creating goals, scoring goals, then he’s one of the best out there.’
Two assists here and many more to come – the guy is only going to get better.

5. Harry Kane – UP ONE
Harry Kane keeps on producing for Tottenham despite his side’s poor form, with the team now registering three losses in their last four Premier League games.
He took his goal well in typical Harry Kane style, but could only do so much with Antonio Conte opting for a defensive style and so many of his attacking team-mates missing through injury.
Southgate will have everything crossed during Spurs’ game against Leeds at the weekend for Kane to get through safely, with the England captain absolutely paramount for any chances the Three Lions have of success in Qatar.
Tottenham need a break, but Kane certainly doesn’t.
Harry Kane scored again for Tottenham against Liverpool but his side lost once again
4. Bukayo Saka – DOWN ONE
Hearts were in Arsenal and England mouths last week when Saka limped off during the first half of Arsenal’s win over Nottingham Forest, but he was all good to start the derby on Sunday.
He looks so at home on the right side of Arteta’s system and logged another assist, giving Marc Cucurella the run around on a difficult afternoon for the Spaniard.
It seems impossible that he doesn’t start England’s opening game of the World Cup in a couple of weeks time, and it’s easy to forget he’s still just 21.
A pleasure to watch every week.

3. Mo Salah – NEW ENTRY
Oh, he’s back!
Salah reminded fans just how good he is with a brace for Liverpool against Tottenham in North London on Sunday as he fired his side to a much-needed Premier League away win.
The Egyptian produced a magical first touch for his first before firing past Hugo Lloris with easy, and a gorgeous finish for his second despite a handy assist from Eric Dier.
When Salah fires, Liverpool fire, and, with back-to-back wins, fans will be hoping Liverpool have now turned a corner from their recent struggles – and Salah, too.

2. Erling Haaland – NON-MOVER
This guy is also back, but in a very different way.
Haaland shook off illness last week but not a bruised foot and missed City’s win over Leicester with the issue, sending fantasy managers around the world into meltdown.
He returned – to the bench at least – against Fulham, and was introduced in the second half by Pep Guardiola as his side chased a winner with 10 men late on.
Up stepped Haaland, and from the penalty spot he (narrowly) slotted past Bernd Leno in the Fulham goal to earn his side all three points and send City fans, players and staff into ecstasy.

1. Miguel Almiron – NON-MOVER
No. Nobody can stop Almiron. On this list, or on the pitch.
The midfielder scored yet again for Newcastle in the Magpies’ rout of Southampton, and what a sensational run of form he is in.
He was given some help thanks to some awful Saints defending, but he took his goal so well and he is simply oozing confidence right now and is the hottest player in the league.
He tops Power Rankings again, and you wouldn’t bet against him doing the same next week.
