France manager Didier Deschamps (right) went over to check on the stricken midfielder
Pogba was unable to continue the session and had to be assisted off the pitch by a coach
Teed up for a shot on the edge of the area by France manager Didier Deschamps, the 28-year-old yelled out with pain as he struck the ball.
He immediately limped and held his right left – indicating to Deschamps that the issue was around the thigh area.
To minimalise the threat of any further injury, a hobbling Pogba was taken off the pitch as he was accompanied by a member of staff to a car before being driven away.
The injury will come of frustration to Deschamps as it was only Pogba and Bayern Munich right back Benjamin Pavard in training, with the rest of the squad given the day off after playing at the weekend.
France confirmed that Pogba has been withdrawn and Jordan Veretout has replaced him
United have confirmed that Pogba will not feature during the international break but did not set an expected return date for the former Juventus star, in what could be a big blow for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
It is not yet known whether Pogba will immediately return to Carrington, with boss Solskjaer seen jetting off to Norway with pressure mounting on the under-fire boss following defeat to arch rivals Man City.
Sportsmail revealed on Monday night that United stars were surprised to learn that they have been given a week off during this international break, given the side’s need for a turnaround in performances.
The France Team tweeted: ‘Paul Pogba has suffered an injury to the quadriceps of the right thigh and is forced to miss the next two matches.
Last month, he was sent off for a reckless challenge on Liverpool’s Naby Keita at Old Trafford
‘To replace him, Didier Deschamps called on Jordan Veretout.’
Les Bleus have two World Cup qualifiers in the current international break with a home clash against Kazakhstan on Saturday and then a trip to Finland on November 16.
Four days later, under-performing United head to Watford in the Premier League – although Pogba will serve the final of this three-match domestic ban.
After that, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s stuttering side head to Villarreal in the Champions League on November 23.
