Pogba and Fernandes’ role in allowing Edinson Cavani to flourish at Man Utd
Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes have helped Edinson Cavani shine at Manchester United – and not just with their performances on the pitch.
Cavani has become increasingly important to United in recent months, and is playing a key role in their push for a first Premier League title since 2013.
The Uruguayan striker has played the full 90 minutes in three of United's recent games – helping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side overtake Liverpool in the title race and knock their fierce rivals out of the FA Cup.
Pogba has also found form in recent weeks, while the talismanic Fernandes continues to provide ammo for United's attack.
And the two midfielders have been credited with helping Cavani settle into life in Manchester following his departure from Paris-Saint Germain in the summer.
Solskjaer says the 33-year-old has picked up enough English to get by – with Pogba, Fernandes and other players helping to fill in the gaps.
The pair have been translating for Cavani, as have Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic, according to The Telegraph.
“He has learnt the most important words,” Solskjaer said in an interview with the publication.
But the manager insists Cavani can always communicate his message anyway, saying: “If there is something he wants to get across, he is never shy to relay his message and the players help.”
Cavani's emergence as a leader in the squad can only be a good thing for United as they target a first title since Sir Alex Ferguson's final season.
And Solskjaer says players like Mason Greenwood are benefiting hugely from the forward's vast experience.
"We think Mason is going to be very important in the second half of the season," said Solskjaer ahead of Wednesday's visit of the Blades.
"I think Mason has taken steps, he's grown, he's more mature and he's been training with Edinson Cavani for half a season.
"He's learning good habits and whoever doesn't learn from a professional like him or Bruno (Fernandes) or the players we've brought in, that's a pity.
"I'm very confident that Mason will chip in with good performances, goals and assists."
